Singapore Airlines is bringing the A380 back to Melbourne
After a lengthy absence, the Singaporean superjumbo will finally make a welcome return to Melbourne.

Good things often come to those who wait. For Melburnians, who’ve waited years for the Singapore Airlines A380 to once-again be a fixture at the gates of Tullamarine, that moment is finally set to happen from May 16, 2023.
The superlative superjumbo – equipped with 78 cocooning business class seats on the upper deck – will replace the existing Boeing 777 jetting off daily between Melbourne and Singapore.
From May 16, Singapore Airlines' A380 will feature on these daily flights:
- Melbourne-Singapore (SQ228) departing at 4:40pm, and arriving at 9:20pm.
- Singapore-Melbourne (SQ237) taking off at 12:25am, and then landing at 10:50am.
In addition to the long-awaited Melbourne return, Singapore Airlines is also doubling down on its daily Sydney A380 service, swapping out the existing A350 (SQ232/SQ221) from May 17, 2023.
Of course, the real benefit of the A380 is boosted capacity – and, in turn, more opportunities to redeem those coveted reward seats.
With Virgin Australia’s recently restored codeshare agreement with the airline, Velocity frequent flyers can now access over 40 global destinations including Rome, Zurich, London-Heathrow and more.
Boosted A380 flights into Sydney and Melbourne are a sign of renewed confidence from the Star Alliance member, with a Singapore Airlines’ spokesperson noting the carrier is seeing stronger demand for flights to destinations across Australia, South East Asia, and other parts of East Asia.

Booked J tickets on Qatar to Madrid next year. Would love them to swap their B 777-300 for one of their stable of A 380s. Bound to be more pleasurable

Although the A380 hard product is far superior, the A350 improved cabin pressure is still a winner for me.

Yes it is time SQ let Customer who want fly Scoot fly with Scoot and Customers who want to fly with SQ FLY with Singapore quality Airline A380s are great.

Awesome! My round trip (Saver redemption) went from being B777 both ways to A380 both ways. Possibly the first time I have "won" with a SQ aeroplane swap.

The downside of the addition of the A380 to MEL is that the JFK-FRA-SIN route has been downsized to a 77W so now there is no A380 service between FRA and SIN.

Bevan unfortunately no redemption seats are extremely hard to get i am trying for july 2023 and i still cannot get any even though i have over 1 million points to use.

For those of you who can't get seats on the Nonstop SQ228 outbound and SQ227 home have any of you thought about trying other SQ options say as VA to Adelaide or Brisbane or Sydney and seeing what you can do both ways.You might end up on say the a350's connecting off the Virgin Domestic planes but it's worth something.
